Well as usual my hubby had a different plan than me. By the time he got home there was no way I was convincing him to go through that awful corner in the basement. However yesterday I freaked out because I couldn't find something I was looking for in the closet. Which prompted a quick fast forward to Week 34 Organize Your Bedroom Closet. You will learn I am a bit random and if something is really bothering me at that moment I will probably attack it promptly. Please do not judge me and yes I know you aren't supposed to air your laundry for the world to see, but this my friends is what prompted me to take action.
Yes my friends, this was my closet before I started. As always I pledged to take the picture without tidying up first, however in this case I am sure you weren't thinking it could have been worse.
Since we are still building you may notice the floor lamp in the corner. Definetly not ideal, but on hubbies way home he stopped and picked up an actual light fixture. Hopefully he will be able to wire it in this weekend.
- She says to walk through and toss the things you see that doesn't fit, you don't like, ripped, or out of style. Well I started by tossing for sure, but it was by tossing everything on the floor into the middle of my bedroom floor and then I sorted things out that way.
- Then I went through each shelf. As you can see we weren't very good about neatly putting things in and or taking them out. However my husband will never let me throw anything away unless it is literally falling apart. He can use most older clothes for work since he doesn't have an office job by any stretch of the imagination. He gets dirty and all his work clothes are stained from oil and grease and dirt. So I sorted out all the clothes of his that I haven't seen him wear in months or more. I set those clothes in a pile. A LARGE pile. Neatly stacked the ones he wears often in the shelf. When he got home I told him he could only keep one stack of work shirts, work jeans, nice jeans, and pajama pants in the closet. I went through the pile with him telling him he didn't have to throw anything away, but if there was a reason he didn't wear the clothes to please let me know. He shocked the crap out of me by cooperating. It was truly a MIRACLE. He patiently went through the entire stack. And then he actually picked out about a dozen things and threw them in the trash.... I am still in shock!!!! And to top it off he put about another dozen things in a pile for donation. Which left one stack of work clothes that I told him I would put in a tote in the basement, as he wore out the clothes he had in the closet I would get more out of the basement.
- As for my shelves it was a similar process but went much quicker. I was much more eager to toss. Being that I am super hugely pregnant, I am down to my very pregnant clothes, so I took my earlier in pregnancy clothes which are also the clothes I will wear for a month or 2 post partum and stacked them neatly on a higher shelf. Leaving only the clothes on my shelf that fit me right now, which doesn't seem like much but there is quite a bit on hangers. All my non preggo clothes were allready in a tote. I made a pile to donate and threw away a few things.
- Lastly I saw the most amazing "why didn't I think of this" idea on pinterest. I took all my sheets and each set I put neatly inside one of the matching pillowcases. Stacked them on a high shelf with some quilts and waaallaaa.....DONE
Oh MY! Is that carpet I see??
Sheets and quilts
Wow! there is actually room left over! Oh the simplicity makes me so happy!
