My Story
We started building our home 2 and a half years ago. 2 years ago we moved into the unfinished basement. The only thing we had was running water, toilet, and shower. We had sheets for walls and a table and a stove for cooking with. We lived surrounded by boxes and totes. This is about when we found out I was pregnant with our first. We went to work on overdrive trying to complete the main floor. About 2 months after our son was born we moved into the completed bedroom on the main floor just in time for winter. The living room, 2 bedrooms and an open loft were completed even with carpet. We have done all the work as we could afford only having to take out one small personal loan recently. We spent the winter working on the kitchen. We didn't have cabinets in the budget so we built shelves and put temporary counter tops on them. And by temporary I mean plywood with contact paper on them. Not ideal, but at least functional, or so I thought. Now having a toddler in the house running around his favorite place is to run to the kitchen and pull everything off the shelves and onto the floor. Yikes I need major help in this department. We are hoping to be able to finish the kitchen next summer. But should I mention we are now expecting our second boy in March. I am so exhausted I can't keep up with the mess boy #1 makes let alone try to do anything else. We have an open floor plan so I have the furniture arranged so that he is corralled in the living room and I can watch him as I work in the kitchen. Yes that worked great for awhile but now he just climbs over everything. We did just this fall have walls built and sheet rock put up in the basement. We have most of our boxes in storage and I am frantically trying to paint the walls so we can get the mudroom and the bathroom done so some things can finally move out of boxes for good. Then when those rooms get completed I will work on what will be the boys' room in the basement. For awhile it will be a guest room until they are old enough to not be so close to us. So hopefully this gives you a picture of why I am so determined to finally be organized and get rid of the clutter I have been living in for almost 3 years. Because of the way our house is getting finished. I will be skipping around the book to complete the rooms that have a top priority first. But in the end I will hit all the chapters in the book. Thanks for listening!
